Inter consider Barca’s Montoya

Inter have once more been linked with Barcelona full-back Martin Montoya, this time as a replacement for Javier Zanetti.

Versatile full-back Zanetti is facing between six and eight months on the treatment table for the Nerazzurri after rupturing his Achilles tendon.

The Italians have, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, subsequently drawn up a list of possible replacements to bring in this summer in anticipation of his absence.

Previously linked with the youngster, Inter are said to be including Barca’s Montoya on their list.

The 21-year-old, who can play at full-back or centre-back, has apparently returned to the Italians’ thoughts, but that he may only opt for the move if they qualify for European football next term.

Montoya, who has a contract at the Camp Nou until June 2014, is seen as open to leaving this summer in an attempt to find playing time to earn a spot in Spain’s 2014 World Cup squad.

Meanwhile, reports in England today suggest that Liverpool are also interested in the Spaniard.
