Martinez: Tie is 50-50

Javi Martinez is aware of the task facing Bayern Munich this week as they host Barcelona, but he still rates the semi-final as 50-50.

The Bavarians prepare to welcome their Catalan counterparts tomorrow evening for the first leg of their Champions League last four clash.

“I am looking forward to the game. It's my first Champions League semi-final and the motivation is huge,” enthused Martinez to gathered reporters today.

“We have to stay loyal to our style. We need to maintain a tight shape and play as a team. We will try to take possession but we know that at some points we will have to suffer.”

Lionel Messi is a doubt to start the match as he has yet to receive medical clearance from Barcelona.

“Messi is the best in the world but Barcelona are not just about Messi. They have quality players all over the pitch.

“Whether they play one player or another there is no difference,

“Everybody is looking forward to the game. I have faced Barcelona a couple of times and often tasted defeat.

“But now I am at a different club and we will not play for the draw tomorrow. I rate the tie as 50-50.”
