Simeone: Atleti are working hard

Diego Simeone refused to criticise Atletico Madrid for a disappointing goalless draw against Getafe on Sunday evening.

Atleti were held to the draw in this Week 30 fixture and finished it with nine men, after Mario Suarez and Diego Godin picked up two yellow cards each during the second half.

“We went out for the win. I think in the first half we had more chances. The squad gave everything and we were on top until the sending off of Mario,” reflected Simeone post-match.

“The guys are working hard. They have had an impressive season and we must continue to respond in the remaining eight dates.

“The red cards? It's a game and sometimes there are situations that the adrenaline and intensity of the game will generate a yellow. We will try to fix it and I’m sure that the players who come in will do well.”

Atletico are on another run of three games on the road without a win.

“I think we could look at it from the point of view that we have 60 points. The season is long and the opposition begin to know each other and find solutions.

“We won in Pamplona, we drew against Valencia and here. We would like to continue to improve and it is true that we are not as clear as we have been.”

Radamel Falcao has also dipped in form.

“We know he is a major player in front of goal. His numbers are impressive.

“In a long and demanding league as being asked to constantly score goals is not easy. He is two goals from last year’s total with eight games to play.”
