‘Diego Lopez a wise buy’

Roberto Jimenez has reflected on the rumours that linked him with a move to Real Madrid in January, and praised their eventual choice Diego Lopez.

The 27-year-old Real Zaragoza goalkeeper this weekend faces Madrid, having been linked to the club in the winter transfer window as cover for the injured Iker Casillas.

“I imagine there was a long list of names and among them all it is possible that mine was in there,” reflected Roberto to AS this week.

“Sometimes it is important for one to see that they have thought of you. In the end I think they made a very wise decision in Diego Lopez, a highly accomplished goalkeeper, who trained there and is very experienced. He is proving that with Madrid having moved there.

“Why does Spain have so many goalkeepers? There is a great school with great Coaches. It is helping a lot in creating good goalkeepers and it is contributing to professional football a large number of names.

“Everything comes from this level.”
