Players & Coach defend Benzema

Teammates and Coaches at the French national team have come to the defence of Karim Benzema, after he once again failed to score for Les Bleus.

The 25-year-old has gone almost 1,000 minutes without netting for France, with a section of the home support booing him in their 3-1 win over Georgia last night.

According to a survey conducted by L'Equipe, 78 per cent of fans want the Real Madrid man dropped from the starting XI.

But the Coach Didier Deschamps has insisted that the forward will come good.

“Karim had chances to score,” he told reporters. “I'd worry more if he wasn't getting into the spaces.

“He is a big part of the group and has a bigger role than just scoring goals. The French public are very demanding, but it is always hard for players to hear whistling.”

Mathieu Valbuena also come out fighting, insisting: “Karim is our best player.” Whilst Franck Ribery claimed: “It is not easy. I have been through periods like this, but we trust him. I hope he is smiling again against Spain.”
