Varane called up by France

Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane has been called up to France’s squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Spain.

The 19-year-old has been included in the senior set-up before, but has yet to debut for Les Bleus.

Following on from encouragement from boss Didier Deschamps, though, the player is once more in contention, having been named for the latest squad for late March’s qualifiers, including a crucial meeting in Paris against Spain.

Varane has been in a notable run of form for Madrid, including starring in recent wins over Barcelona.
