Laudrup: Nani never a red card

Michael Laudrup believes that Manchester United’s Luis Nani was hard done by in receiving a red card against Real Madrid.

The Portuguese winger picked up a straight red during his team’s eventual 2-1 defeat to Madrid in the Champions League Last 16 second leg played on Tuesday.

For Laudrup though, who has been linked with the Madrid hotseat for next season, Nani’s challenge that caught Alvaro Arbeloa with his studs did not deserve such a penalty.

“The other day I was watching the game. I’m not a fan of United or Real Madrid, but I think that never, under any circumstances, should that have been a red card,” The Swansea City manager told his Press conference this week.

“A yellow card maybe, but a red card? Absolutely not. I don't think it matters whether it's a referee in the Premier League, La Liga or a Champions League game.

“It was just a bad decision. Referees are human and make mistakes, there is no problem with that, and sometimes it goes against you.”
