France national team boss Didier Deschamps has admitted that Raphael Varane shows a high level of maturity for such a young player.
The 19-year-old centre-back has had a revelatory season for Real Madrid, becoming a first-team regular in place of Pepe.
And Les Bleus' Coach has been full of praised for the youngster as he prepares to name his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Spain.
“At 19, Varane shows an unusual maturity,” he told Le Parisien. “And he has great technical ability.
“He has relegated Pepe to the bench – not just anybody. But he has to maintain this quality for a long period.
“The level is high at the moment, but we'll see.”
