Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane believes that Luis Nani’s red card against Real Madrid was fully justified.
Nani was shown a straight red just before the hour mark of United’s eventual 2-1 home defeat to Madrid in the Champions League Last 16.
The decision was to the fury of United, but Keane expressed post-match that the incident, where Nani caught Alvaro Arbeloa with his studs whilst attempting to control a dropping ball [pictured], was worthy of a red.
“I think it is the right decision,” the former Republic of Ireland international commented in his capacity as a pundit on ITV afterwards.
“It is irrelevant whether Nani intended [for contact] or not.
“He should be aware of players around him, or did he think that he was the only one within 20 metres?”
