Atleti off to South America

Atletico Madrid will spend two weeks of their pre-season preparations for 2013-14 on a tour of South America.

As part of a sponsorship partnership with television company Direct TV, the club have agreed to play three friendlies across the continent during the last week of July and first week of August.

Club President Enrique Cerezo and his Direct TV counterpart Jacopo Bracco presented details of this agreement to reporters this week.

“Through this agreement, Direct TV organises an international tour of the 2013 pre-season for Atletico Madrid, which will consist of three matches in three different locations in South America that we will know of soon,” Cerezo confirmed.

“We are happy to travel to South America again. We realise that our team attracts much interest in Latin America and that our club has nurtured great players from this region, which we have always looked to with affection and respect.”

Atleti visited Colombia and Costa Rica last summer and have also previously played in Mexico. They are anticipated as likely to be playing these latest three organised games in Argentina, Uruguay and Chile.

Reports also have it that the team will be travelling to Singapore for a friendly arranged on August 10 against Lions.
