Manchester United board member Sir Bobby Charlton has admitted that he did not want Cristiano Ronaldo to join Real Madrid.
The Portuguese forward left the Premier League side in 2009 for a world record fee €94m.
But the 75-year-old has conceded that he didn't want to see him leave Old Trafford, whilst also commenting on his playing memories against Los Blancos.
“I have to say that we did not want him to leave Manchester,” he told AS. “But Madrid appeared to be an ideal place for him.
“He said he wanted to be the world's best player, and I think he is.
“When you see Cristiano, your first thought when he touches the ball is, 'he can score'. Everyone loves it when he plays well, and right now he is scoring a lot of goals every week.
“I remember watching Madrid from the stands in 1956-57, and thinking 'who is this? I've never anything like it'.
“It turns out it was Alfredo Di Stefano. Nobody has impressed me as much as he has. I have never seen a player as good as him.”
