Ferguson: Ronaldo unlikely to re-join

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted rumours that Cristiano Ronaldo could one day play for Manchester United again are 'unlikely'.

Stories surfaced last month that the Old Trafford club were willing to splash out on re-signing the Portuguese goalscorer.

But the Red Devils Coach has claimed that it is far-fetched to believe the 28-year-old will play for the club again, whilst also commenting on his return to his former home next Tuesday in the Champions League.

“It is a false hope,” he told Sky Sports. “There isn't anything that allows me to think he can come back here.

“He has two years left on his contract at Real Madrid, and I'm sure that the two parties are negotiating to extend that.

“Maybe his agent is just playing the game.

“Cristiano will be very well received. All the players who have been back here, and have been great players, are welcome.”

The 71-year-old finally joked about his plans to stop Ronaldo in the last 16 clash.

“I have a plan,” he insisted. “Get a machete. And plan B is to get a machine gun!”
