Garcia thinking only of survival

Luis Garcia says Getafe’s up-turn in form is only with the priority of ensuring League survival, rather than any other targets.

The Madrid side have won three of their last four games to move back into European contention, sitting just five points behind the final Europa League place.

However, for Garcia, the team are intent on a much more modest season objective first and foremost.

“We have to keep adding points to ensure League survival. Thereafter, if there is space above us, even better,” reflected the Coach to reporters today.

“Everyone here is saying that the most important thing is to keep adding points. Which is worth more than the Cup, which is great too.

“What matters, though, is to score as many points as we can. We are only thinking about beating Zaragoza, who are very intense, aggressive and tough.”

Getafe host an out-of-form Zaragoza side in Week 26’s opening fixture on the Friday evening.

“They are on the edge of decline. The important thing is that we maintain our level. If we win, we would get to 38 points and we can enjoy the weekend off.

“I promised my players that if we beat Mallorca and Zaragoza, that they could have three days off until the Tuesday. Hopefully we can give them that.”
