Madrid without Alonso, Benzema

Real Madrid have named their squad to face Deportivo La Coruna this weekend and it does not include Xabi Alonso or Karim Benzema.

Alonso suffered a groin injury two weeks ago and sat out the latter part of today’s training session, with his absence from the weekend squad seen as giving him rest ahead of games with Barcelona and Manchester United on the horizon.

Benzema, meanwhile, has also not trained fully this week suffering with an injury and so won’t make Saturday’s trip either.

The recovering Marcelo and Castilla striker Alvaro Morata both make the 20-man selection. After suspension, Gonzalo Higuain, Alvaro Arbeloa and Luka Modric return.

Sergio Ramos serves a one match ban.

Real Madrid squad to face Deportivo: Adan, Jesus, Diego Lopez, Varane, Pepe, Coentrao, Carvalho, Marcelo, Arbeloa, Albiol, Khedira, Kaka, Ozil, Essien, Modric, Callejon, Di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo, Higuain, Morata
