Clasico to mark Saudi train deal?

Saudi Arabia's government has reportedly agreed that a Real Madrid-Barcelona friendly should inaugurate construction work on a new high speed train system.

Saudi Arabia have awarded a €6,700m contract to a consortium of 12 Spanish construction companies to complete work by 2016 on a high speed train system to link over 450km of the Middle-Eastern country.

The deal is seen as a major boost to a struggling Spanish economy and is followed up by an agreement in place for 36 trains to be supplied to the Saudis by Spanish companies, with a further 20 as a future option too.

To celebrate and inaugurate the major project, the Saudi Arabian government have reportedly agreed and requested that a friendly between Spain’s two most high-profile clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona would be appropriate.

The game would reportedly be hosted in Makkah.

Barca and Madrid are set to meet twice in the matter of a few days this coming week, as they clash in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final in midweek, before meeting again next weekend in La Liga.
