Falcao promises Atleti effort

Radamel Falcao has commented that despite the freezing cold temperatures and Rubin Kazan’s defensiveness, Atletico Madrid will push to win tonight.

Atleti are chasing a 2-0 deficit in the second leg of their Round of 32 clash with Rubin today, after last week’s surprise home defeat.

“We know what the situation is, but we have come here to play, these ties are not resolved in a single game and we will fight until the end for our chance,” Falcao declared in his pre-match address.

The game is expected to be played in freezing cold temperatures, with the players’ preparations reported back in Spain for the notable amount of extra tracksuits and thermal gear they have been wearing.

“When one enters the field the desire to win is greater than the external circumstances. I already came to Russia with Porto in 2010-11 twice and played without any problems.

“I do not have to think about the team with regards the temperature. We are focused on the field and our performance within it.

“The game? Rubin showed in the first leg that they would stand back, not give much space to Atletico, we want to find the tools to break down the defensive set-up that they showed in Madrid.

“They were very compact, very balanced, they have control across all lines and also have a good counterattack.

“We are thinking more about what we can do to break them down, though. We will have to work harder because they have the advantage.”
