‘Mou unlikely to succeed Ferguson’

Peter Schmeichel says that Manchester United will not consider Jose Mourinho as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor for the ‘external factors’ that he brings.

Mourinho has on and off been linked with replacing Ferguson at Old Trafford, when the Scot decides to step aside, but according to former goalkeeper and United club ambassador Schmeichel, he won’t get a look in.

“He will probably not be his successor. I do not think that the club are happy with everything that Mourinho does,” reflected the Dane to El Mundo this week.

“He’s a great candidate for his qualities as a Coach, but I do not think that the club likes all the external factors that come with that.

“We have seen this at Chelsea, Inter and now Real Madrid. He is a Coach for three years, no more.”

Schmeichel was talking ahead of Mourinho facing off against United in the Champions League Last 16.

“Manchester United arrive for this game on their best form and they should win because they are having a good season.

“These are the two biggest clubs in the world, Barcelona are not so big. Real Madrid and Manchester United have dominated football history over the last 100 years.”
