Mediapro confirm Clasico kick-off

The President of Mediapro has announced that Real Madrid’s League Clasico with Barcelona will ‘almost certainly’ be played at 4pm local time on March 2.

Madrid have reportedly requested to both the Spanish Football League and the broadcasters for the game to be scheduled as early as possible in Week 26.

Originally having had a request to play the fixture on the Friday evening turned down by the LFP, the capital club were reported last week as having asked for the 4pm local time slot on the Saturday, the first regular kick-off time of the weekend.

The intention of the club is to have as much preparation time as possible before facing Manchester United in the second leg of their Champions League Last 16 clash, which will follow in the midweek.

Mediapro President Jaume Roures has today indicated that Madrid’s second request has been granted.

“Real Madrid-Barcelona at 4pm seems perfect. It will almost certainly be then,” reflected Roures today.

“I’m hearing that Barca-Getafe was a greater audience pull than that of Real Madrid-Sevilla and that was pay per view

“We tried to play Madrid-Barca are noon, but it is very difficult, but for a serious reason, but for reasons that are not heard.

“It has been said that that is not a good time to play football, but they have demonstrated that it is. I had this discussion with the technicians at Barca and they have shown that time does not determine the performance.”

Should the game be played at 3pm UK time, it will not be allowed to be shown live in the UK, due to football broadcasting legislation.
