‘Klose almost joined Barca’

As Miroslav Klose arrives in Barcelona today to receive a fair play award, his agent confirms he almost signed for the Catalans.

The 34-year-old is in Catalonia this week to attend the 65th Gran Gala Mundo Deportivo awards, which recognise the best sporting achievements from the past year.

Organised by the Catalan publication Mundo Deportivo, the awards will recognise Klose this year for fair play, after his gesture earlier in the season playing for Lazio.

The German admitted to the referee during a League match against Napoli that he had handled the ball in scoring a goal, subsequently seeing that it was ruled out.

With Klose arriving in the Spanish city today, his agent was asked of transfer rumours that stretched back to last summer, which suggested that Barcelona were interested in signing the former Bayern Munich man.

“Klose could have signed for Barcelona several times, but the time when he was closest was in 2007,” commented Alexander Schutt today, in reference to the summer he left Werder Bremen to join Bayern.
