Messi: Three points important

Lionel Messi has again downplayed the worth of his records, insisting that before the Clasico, Barcelona’s performance and result was most important.

The Catalans won 5-1 at the Camp Nou on Sunday evening to convincingly dispatch with Osasuna, in preparation for the midweek Clasico with Real Madrid.

Whilst Messi’s four goals broke two further records, the Argentine was most enthusiastic post-match for the performance of his teammates.

“The important thing is that the team played well and that we won,” he reacted afterwards.

“People were talking about the Clasico and we knew that we had to win today. We played a great game, we went out as usual and decided the game.

“Casillas’ absence for the Clasico? Obviously he is very important for them, he saves a lot of games, but we do not have to think about that.

“The Clasico is important and complicated, but we have a good squad to go into it with. All the Clasicos are important, no matter how we go into them.”

Victor Valdes was well received in his first game at Camp Nou since confirmation of his intention to not renew his contract emerged.

“He deserves the applause and more, for me he’s the best keeper in the history of the club.”
