Rayo explain Leo’s Atleti trip

Rayo Vallecano sporting director has looked to downplay Leo Baptistao’s presence at an Atletico Madrid game earlier this month.

It was revealed recently that the young Brazilian, who has been heavily linked with a summer switch across the city to the Calderon, was an invited guest at the club for their League match on January 13 against Real Zaragoza.

“He prefers to go to a game and not to stay at home playing computer games. It is normal for him to go to the Calderon, since he has a good relationship with Diego Costa, who we have also invited to attend games here,” commented sporting director at Vallecas Felipe Minambres to reporters today.

“We have had a lot of interest for many players. For example, last year Lass was wanted by three or four team and yet here he is.

“Whether or not Atletico like Leo, he is liked by many teams in Spain and abroad. That does not mean that he has to say no if a friend invites him to go and see a game, at Atletico, Getafe or wherever.

“Leo is focused on recovering to full fitness, returning to competing and to showing the player that he is, which is a very good one. He only has to think of playing and enjoying himself, he is 20-years-old and things should not weigh him down.

“We have bids from clubs for several players, but we want to continue our line of form.”
