Rijkaard sacked by Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Arabian national team have sacked Dutch Coach Frank Rijkaard after a period of 18 months in charge.

The 50-year-old was appointed to the position in July 2011, but has been removed from it this week after a disappointing Gulf Cup of Nations saw the team fail to get out of their group stage.

“After a meeting this Wednesday, we agreed with Frank Rijkaard to terminate his contract and send a legal counsel to decide the rights for the resolution of the contract,” read a statement released by the Saudi Arabia Football Association today.

Rijkaard spent five years in charge of Barcelona between 2003 and 2008, winning two League titles, two Super Cups and the 2006 Champions League.
