Roura praises Barca attitude

Assistant Coach Jordi Roura praised Barcelona’s attitude in the Copa del Rey for defeating Cordoba in convincing fashion.

Already 2-0 up from the first leg of this Last 16 clash, the Catalans ran out 5-0 winners at the Camp Nou thanks to doubles from David Villa and Alexis Sanchez following Thiago Alcantara’s opening strike.

“If something needs to be emphasised then that is attitude, that ambition with which all the players have played with,” Roura, who is standing in for Tito Vilanova, enthused post-match.

“Because at first it may seem like a comfortable match, inviting certain conservatism, but the important thing has been the desire to provide entertainment, through the attitude and ambition of the team.

“You have to tip you hat, because the first half was exceptional. We have played with a great intensity and at a high level.

“It is most remarkable and once again we must recognise this attitude of the players.

“It is not a demerit of Cordoba’s, who had a plan and were daring.”

Villa came back into the team and responded with two goals.

“The goals are his great feature and make him an exceptional player. He has had a great game. He has taught us what we all know, that he is an important player for us.

“Gradually he is returning to his level and he will again be greatly important, no doubt.”

Alexis also netted twice, after another indifferent patch of form for the Blaugrana.

“There have been several matches where it seemed he could not quite get there [in front of goal]. This game, fortunately, he has ended that streak.

“The important thing is that he has broken these weeks of drought. He was helping us a lot, but it is true that he was struggling to score goals.”
