‘Arda gives his heart in every game’

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone has shot down talk of influential midfielder Arda Turan’s departure.

The Turkish international caused a stir recently by admitting he wants to play for one of Europe’s top five or six clubs, and was subsequently linked with Chelsea.

“First, I did not hear these statements,” responded Simeone at a Press conference held today after training. “Everyone can say what they like, but the important thing is what he shows on the field.

“Arda is one of our best players, he gives his heart in every one of our games. He has a contract with our club.”

In terms of inbound transfers, ‘El Cholo’ did not give the impression that Atleti will be particularly busy this month.

“I have not talked to [director of football] Jose Luis Caminero and the people of the club. During these days we’ll get together and see whether it is necessary or not.”

The Rojiblancos resume their campaign with a game away to Real Mallorca on Sunday, still occupying second place and looking like the closest thing Barcelona have to genuine title rivals.

“We’re talking about six months ahead and the reality is today,” Simeone continued. “We should not move away from the line we have been following. In around about seven matches we’ll see what position we are occupying.

“The players are well. Other than those who are penalised, we’re good. Filipe Luis is recovering, and the suspensions for [Radamel[ Falcao, Arda and Miranda give others the chance to play. We have a good match in Mallorca, and that’s what I love.”

The former Catania Coach ended with a word on his contract situation.

“It’s a situation that must be dealt with, but we are in peace and that’s the best way to keep working.”
