Pique: League ours to lose

Gerard Pique has admitted that Barcelona have one hand on the League trophy and only a run of bad form represents danger to them.

La Blaugrana are now nine points clear of nearest rivals Atletico Madrid, after dispatching them 4-1 on Sunday night.

Perhaps as critically, last season’s record-breaking champions Real Madrid sit 13 points back in third place.

“The League is only ours to lose. We have a very favourable situation and we cannot afford to drop our level in any game,” reflected Pique, after making his 200th first team appearance for the Catalans.

“Rather than relax, the danger is in entering a dynamic of two or three games where we do not win and then lose the advantage.

“If we lose a game, nothing happens, but we cannot have a losing streak. We’re so far having a great season. It is something spectacular to see my teammates play.”

Pique also had some words on the game played on Sunday.

“We were made to work and in the first half especially. Adriano’s goal has given us a lot. In the second half, we were decisive in taking our chances.

“We have played a very good game against a great team that is second in the table for a reason.

“Falcao? He is a great player. He has scored many goals, he is having a great season. He runs a lot, so you have to be aware, to get your boot there before him. He is very difficult on the field.”
