Alonso: We’ll keep going

Xabi Alonso does not believe that Real Madrid should be conceding defeat in the title race, as he looks to explain Sunday’s draw.

The capital club picked up only a 2-2 result at home to Espanyol to leave them 13 points behind Barcelona in the League, after just 16 rounds of action.

“It is a bad result because you always want to win. We had started well but we relaxed, did not kill the game and so we are open to what happened to us,” reflected midfielder Alonso, in asserting that poor finishing ultimately proved the difference.

“When the ball enters the back of net then these situations are low risk, we have a bigger advantage.

“But, you cannot say that the League is lost. It is our competitive gene, we will keep fighting, it will be difficult, but we have to believe.”

Alonso was asked why Mourinho said otherwise then in the Press room.

“We only value the message he has given us in the dressing room. We have to be professional and we have to abide by what the Coach tells us.”
