Athletic Bilbao have confirmed today that they have signed youth product Jon Aurtenetxe to a new four-and-a-half-year contract.
Aurtenetxe debuted with the club back in December 2009 but has only really come into his own under Marcelo Bielsa, when during last season he was regularly selected on the left side of defence.
Having also recently debuted for the Spain Under-21 team, the 20-year-old has been rewarded with a new contract, extending his original deal that expired in June 2014 through to June 2017.
The player’s buyout fee has also been raised to a figure of €35m, with the news confirmed via a brief statement on Athletic’s official website.
