Left-back Jon Aurtenetxe has left Athletic Bilbao to join La Liga 2 side Mirandes on a free transfer.
Aurtenetxe has reached an agreement with Athletic for his contract to be terminated, although the Basques can repurchase him at the end of the season.
His move to Mirandes comes as no surprise, given his lack of involvement during Athletic’s preseason as he was not called up for any of their last four friendlies.
The former Spain Under-21 international burst onto the scene at San Mames as a 17-year-old in 2010 before establishing himself as Los Leones’ first-choice left-back under Marcelo Bielsa.
However, injuries and Ernesto Valverde’s preference for Mikel Balenziaga saw him loaned out to Celta Vigo in 2013 and Tenerife last season, plus make just seven appearances for his parent club in that time.
