Garcia: Atleti are favourites

Luis Garcia is well aware that his Getafe are second favourites for their Copa del Rey tie with Atletico Madrid this week.

The Madrid side take the short trip across town to the Calderon this Wednesday for the first leg of their Last 16 Cup clash, with their Coach making clear that they do not expect an easy ride.

“Atletico are favourites, their numbers are exceptional, as in previous years this tie would have been even,” commented Garcia to reporters today.

“This year, El Cholo and his players have done a great job, we will have to be at 100 per cent in order to eliminate them.

“I expect Atletico are showing themselves now, along with Real Madrid they are the most physical side in the League, they squeeze you on the pitch, they are very in your face and whoever they play in their team plays well.

“In their last 20 home games they have won them all, except for one draw. They are a team that are amazing at home, they are virtually the best in the League at home, so we have to produce a great game.”

Atleti go into this midweek fixture off the back of a 6-0 win at the weekend, in which Radamel Falcao netted five times.

“Whoever they play we will have to play. Falcao may be the best centre-forward in the world, but Diego Costa is also great.

“I do not care who plays, but whoever makes the cut, we cannot give them any chances in playing against us at home.”

The Coach also confirmed that he will not be making any unnecessary changes to the Getafe line-up that played at the weekend.

“To me, those that are best for the game will play. We are going to change Alexis, that is the only change that we plan to do.

“We had some doubts, but I have a clear idea and we will maintain our line-up.”

The game kicks off at 10pm local time, much to Garcia’s ire.

“We will get home around one in the morning, it’s going to be cold, but there’s nothing we can do, the television companies are in charge.

“What matters is the crowd and that we are removing people from there, it is increasingly difficult to pay to support a club, you have to think through these things.”
