‘I’ve tried to have Messi arrested!’

Cordoba President Carlos Gonzalez has a novel idea to restrain Barcelona star Lionel Messi – have him arrested.

Segunda Division outfit Cordoba – who knocked out Real Sociedad in the last round – play host to Barca in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey on Wednesday. The match comes just three days after Messi broke Gerd Muller’s long standing record for goals scored in a calendar year.

“I’ve tried to talk to the Civil Guard to get him [Messi] arrested,” Gonzalez joked in conversation with reporters.

“We will compete by all means to get a good result to take into the second leg. In sport anything can happen, but it will be very complicated, because even their second string would be good enough to finish runners up in La Liga.”

Cordoba are struggling in the Segunda at present, taking two points from the last 12 available.
