Voro congratulates Valencia players

Stand-in Valencia Coach Salvador ‘Voro’ Gonzalez was pleased with his side after the Champions League win over Lille.

A first half penalty converted by Jonas gave Los Che a 1-0 victory in France but Bayern Munich’s 4-1 mauling of BATE Borisov meant they had to settle for second place in Group F.

The win did at least put a slightly brighter complexion on a difficult week for the club, with Mauricio Pellegrino sacked and replaced by Ernesto Valverde, who was watching on from the stands tonight.

“The first half was good, the second half not so much,” Gonzalez reflected. “I must congratulate the team for their effort. We must have a willingness to keep growing. The important thing is to win and we must do that against Osasuna on Saturday.”

Valverde will officially take the reins for the game in Pamplona.
