‘Mourinho has the credibility’

Frank de Boer has reflected that Jose Mourinho ‘has the credibility’ to behave as he does at Real Madrid, even if he would not do the same.

Mourinho went out on to the pitch before the Madrid derby at the weekend ‘to test the crowd’s reception’.

In a week where reports have suggested that the Portuguese has taken things too far and will be on his way out of the club next summer, De Boer has spoken up in admiration of his nerve.

“Mourinho is fantastic, he wins titles, he won the Spanish League last year and it is not for me to judge,” commented the Dutchman in his Press conference before Ajax face Madrid this Tuesday.

“If he thinks that he should check out the fans’ reaction because it suits the team then that is fine. If that is how he protects the players and the club, perfect.

“I do not know if I would act the same, I do not seek confrontation with the fans, but Mourinho has the credibility to do it.”

The former Barcelona defender then turned his attention to tonight’s game, reflecting on the defeat in the reverse fixture of this season’s Champions League group stage that Madrid inflicted on Ajax.

“We want to maintain a proper level when playing in the Champions League. Although the match in Amsterdam started badly, it taught us a lesson.

“Against these teams you cannot lose concentration. It is okay if we lose, as long as we do so having played a good game.”
