Michel: Defeat unexpected

Michel admitted that Sevilla were not expecting to lose to Real Valladolid on Monday night, but that in reaction the team have only ‘two choices’.

Early goals from Patrick Ebert and Oscar proved enough for Valladolid to hold out against Sevilla in Week 14’s closing fixture. Whilst a Manucho own goal gave the home side hope, it was soon followed by Gary Medel’s second yellow card.

“I have no choice but to be positive because there is still a long way to go in the League, even if this result was not expected in our calculations,” reflected Michel after the 2-1 defeat.

“We knew the level of our opponent, because they were equal with us in the table, but we must be realistic and know where we are.

“Those first 12 minutes, nothing happened and yet we were at 0-2 and then later when we were 10 against 11 we tried our best.”

The Coach admitted that the task now is to refocus the players, with the team having now slipped to 12th in the table.

“It’s a tough loss, we did not expect it, now we have lost, but we have two choices – either to get up or to think that things are going to continue like this.

“I do not think the latter will be the case and we will have to raise the players physically and morally. The workforce is there, we cannot complain, we’ll try some solutions to raise the team’s level.

“Sevilla now have to work and not look at the standings. If we start to tremble and be negative then it is bad preparation for Friday’s game.”

Los Nervionenses travel to Cornella-El Prat to face Javier Aguirre’s Espanyol in their next League game.
