Sevilla midfielder Hedwiges Maduro has highlighted the importance of a talk the players had amongst themselves on Monday.

Los Nervionenses were humbled 4-0 by Atletico Madrid on Sunday but picked theirselves with Wednesday’s rout of Espanyol in the Copa del Rey, winning 3-0 on the night and 6-1 on aggregate.

“The team is very confident,” the Dutchman stated to Diario de Sevilla. “We already talked amongst the players on Monday and wanted to change things. You saw the demonstration against Espanyol, we played a complete game.

Maduro insists that the players were not offended by President Jose Maria del Nido’s harsh words following the Atleti defeat.

“It was a logical reaction after a match as bad as that. On Monday we have an important game against Real Valladolid. There are many games remaining and we have to start winning.”

The 27-year-old also reacted positively to Diego Perotti’s return from injury.

“We are very happy with Diego, he is training well, with a great desire. He has a lot of quality and is very fast, I hope he stays that way.”
