Radamel Falcao has reiterated that Atletico Madrid’s mindset for the weekend derby with Real Madrid is to look for the win.

Atleti have not won home or away to their rivals since a 3-1 win in October 1999 at the Santiago Bernabeu, but striker Falcao believes three points is all the team are aiming for from this Saturday’s meeting.

“The players are going with the ambition of winning, I do not find myself comfortable with a draw,” he told Cadena Ser.

“After certain circumstances in the game then a draw may prove to be good, but when the players take to the field they are going out to win.

“A draw a good result? The players think differently, we always want to win and this is how we face our challenges. There is a competitive spirit to win and beat the opponent, it is instinctive.

“I have played many important derbies and external situations in this kind of match are forgotten. Players go out there to win without any weight on their backs.

“Madrid will assume that we will have an attitude that is not relaxed.”

Falcao was asked of his side’s poor record against Madrid and why he believed this time would be different for Atleti at the Bernabeu.

“We have renewed enthusiasm for a new opportunity offered in football against our rival, it is a game we all want to play and win. We are looking forward to it.

“We know the situation at both clubs, the circumstances, but that will not influence the derby, players forget that and go out there to win.”
