Reyes: Michel freed me

Jose Antonio Reyes revealed how and why he was able to come out of the shadows at Sevilla to lead them to derby glory over Real Betis.

The former Arsenal man netted twice in the first half on Sunday, including a first after just 11 seconds, to mark a remarkable comeback to the first team.

Reyes has struggled with injury this season and also with rumours that his attitude and lack of fitness had the club considering his sale this January.

“What has changed is the belief in me, which Michel has given me. He gave me complete freedom in the derby, he said: ‘play wherever you want, do not stay in a particular position’, and I did,” enthused Reyes to reporters, explaining the turnaround.

“To score after a few seconds was amazing. I did not know I would be playing until half an hour before. This is the Reyes we all want to see and so do I.

“Have I lacked attitude in training? Primarily that harms me, it is nonsense that I do like being said. I hope I am still Reyes and he is very much in me.”
