Benitez interested in Chelsea job

Rafael Benitez has thrown his hat into the ring for the Chelsea job, describing it as one of the few opportunities he has been waiting for.

The former Valencia Coach has been out of action for almost two years, since leaving Inter in December 2010, but upon hearing of Roberto Di Matteo’s departure from Stamford Bridge, has suggested he would listen to any offer the Londoners put forward.

“Obviously it is a top side and they can compete for trophies so it falls in this category,” commented the Champions League-winning tactician to National, an Abu Dhabi publication where the Spaniard is currently based.

“What I will say is that I am looking for a club that can challenge for trophies so Chelsea is one of these clubs.

“The reason [I have not coached for nearly two years] is that you are looking for a top side that can challenge for trophies, because there are not too many top sides that can challenge so I had to wait.”
