Rami: Valencia invincible at Mestalla

Valencia defender Adil Rami believes Valencia are becoming virtually unbeatable at their Mestalla home.

Los Che take on Bayern Munich in a Champions League game on Wednesday with the leadership of Group F at stake, with both teams on nine points, but French international Rami feels the fact Mauricio Pellegrino’s team are at home could tip the balance in their favour.

“It’s a very important game for both the club and fans and we are prepared for that. We know we are up against one of the best teams in the world, but don’t forget that the home form we are showing makes us almost unbeatable. It is our best weapon,” he told a Press conference.

Rami pointed out that the 2-1 weekend victory over Espanyol, when Valencia won with a disputed last-gasp penalty, was not one of this season’s better performances but was nonetheless a win.
“We all played poorly and perhaps it was a little flat, but when we play well and lose it’s bad. When we play badly and win at least we come away with the three points.

“However, we will be very motivated for Wednesday’s game because it’s on our own ground and we’ll be up against some of the best players in the world. With it also being a Champions League game then it has everything.”

Rami admitted that Valencia had undergone a difficult start to the season and on a personal level claimed it was a hangover from last year.

“We struggled at the beginning because we played a lot of games last term and perhaps there was a little tiredness in both body and mind. Rami was not there, it was my cousin,” he joked.

“However, I’m working to improve and right now our defence is better and I want to get back to my best.

“For me, playing for Valencia is very important and if I’m not able to do that here then I won’t be able to do it for my country.”
