Juanfran: Falcao wants to stay

Juanfran Torres is the latest Atletico Madrid player to insist that teammate Radamel Falcao wants to stay at the club.

The Colombian is the continued subject of transfer speculation and yesterday saw Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo comment that he would like to see him at Stamford Bridge, further fuelling the rumours.

“What Di Matteo said was normal, any Coach in the world would want Falcao,” responded Juanfran, though, in today’s Press conference.

“Unless we are being deceived, which I think not, he says he is very happy here and that he wants to win titles with Atletico. He is a friend and I am always with him and I know that it is true and he is very happy. So I do not think we have to worry about anything.”

Falcao might get a good reception from fans of weekend opponents Granada, as his goal on the last day of last season against Villarreal sent the Yellow Submarine down, ensuring the Andalucians’ survival too.

“The fans are sure to remember this, but the team will not give us anything, much less. In Atletico they are facing the team ranked second in the League, they will certainly be after an incredible win. It will be a tough game.”

However, a win for Atleti would help maintain their second place and perhaps even extend their advantage over Valencia and Malaga, the two sides they are seen as in most contention with for third place.

“We want to keep going and if we take advantage of the others’ slip-ups, the better. If we could get 20 points ahead of Valencia and 15 over Malaga it would be good, we want to have as many points as possible over the others.”
