Monreal seeks Bayern cure

Malaga left-back Nacho Monreal has travelled to Germany to seek a cure to his back problem from Bayern Munich’s club doctor.

Monreal picked up the injury whilst training with Spain for the World Cup qualifiers with Belarus and France and has since been out of action for a month, with Malaga planning to claim compensation from FIFA for his absence.

Although his club says the complaint is ‘evolving favourably’ the player has sought the guidance of Bayern’s Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt, one of the world’s most prestigious doctors who specialises in rehabilitating athletes with complicated injuries.

Muller-Wohlfahrt’s methods include injections of concentrated shark’s fin and he is famous for healing a herniated disc in golfer Jose Maria Olazabal’s back that nobody had diagnosed before.

Malaga have suffered a blip during Monreal’s absence, losing successive home games to Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad, and Chilean boss Manuel Pellegrini has been forced to take emergency measures with left-hand sided midfielder Eliseu and right-back Sergio Sanchez both playing at left-back.
