Alves cherishes Sevilla triumph

Barcelona defender Dani Alves has revealed that the European Super Cup he won with Sevilla against Barca is his most cherished honour.

The Brazilian has won Champions League and La Liga titles during his spell with the Blaugrana but it's a trophy won in opposition to them which is closest to his heart.

“Certainly it's difficult to choose one title over another,” Alves told Le Buteur. “But emotionally the first is always important and my first was the European Super Cup when Sevilla beat Barcelona 3-0.

“Nobody expected it because the opponent was Barca and they had only just won the Champions League with Ronaldinho. Thanks to our value and motivation, we changed the mentality of Sevilla.”

The flying full back then expressed his regret regarding the departure of Pep Guardiola.

“There is no pleasant ache of separation. We feel responsible for his departure. He decided to announce the news when he felt it was inevitable, he was direct and honest. The decision was difficult to accept for us all.”

Alves was again asked about young compatriot Neymar and his suitability for Barca.

“He and Ganso are great players, but they have no tactical discipline, or the maturity and responsibility of knowing you are important in a team. Neymar will take these steps in Europe, preferrably with Barca.”
