Raul Baena sees the Copa del Rey as an opportunity for Espanyol and a competition that they are keen to progress in.
Los Pericos, who are struggling the League, travel south to Sevilla this midweek for the first leg of their round of 32 clash with Michel’s side.
“This can allow the team to continue to grow, in a competition that is good and that we want to win,” Baena told reporters today.
“Sevilla have great potential, they are a competitive opponent and Thursday will be a nice tie, which we have focused on and nothing else.
“If we win then it can serve to reinforce our work and push us forward in everything.”
Espanyol play on the Thursday night and then are straight into League preparations with a Sunday lunchtime slot allocated for Week 10.
“That could have been better, but it is not up to us, we do not decide the times. Physically I think the team can recover well, though.”
