Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is a target for Real Madrid, according to The Telegraph.

The 21-year-old was signed from Atletico Madrid at the end of the 2010-11 campaign to replace the retired Edwin van der Sar, yet has had a difficult start to life in the Premier League and is still to convince at Old Trafford.

De Gea has been dropped more than once by Reds’ boss Sir Alex Ferguson amid reports he has struggled to adapt, leading to Los Blancos monitoring his situation as they search for a long-term successor to 31-year-old Iker Casillas.

It is understood De Gea’s pop star girlfriend Edurne Garcia Almagro is a regular traveller between Madrid and Manchester, a situation that is not ideal for either, and the player may welcome a return to the Spanish capital.

Unconfirmed suggestions in Spain have stated De Gea has informed his agent Jorge Mendes of his desire to move back, his reputation in Spain having remained untarnished despite the difficulties he has faced in England.
