Falcao: Free-kick my first as a pro

Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao admitted his stoppage time free-kick winner at Real Sociedad was his first as a professional.

The Colombian scored the only goal of the game by curling the ball over the wall to give Atleti all three points in injury time for the second successive match, following Weligton’s own goal against Malaga two weeks ago.

“I have been practising free-kicks and when the opportunity arose I didn’t want to miss out. As a professional it’s my first but I used to score a lot when I was younger.

“We always stay behind after training to rehearse them, but it was Gabi who gave me the confidence to take it as he had faith and trust in me,” Falcao told a Press conference.

He did admit, however, that Philippe Montanier’s men had posed a real threat on their home turf.

“The team they put out was as expected and they didn’t allow us to play. It was very difficult and they prevented us creating chances, although we knew we could score and that it was important to keep a clean sheet.

“We have to keep on playing this way and the aim now is to win on Thursday and Sunday, nothing more.

“Personally I have to carry on doing what I’m doing and I hope to score a lot more,” he added.
