A superb long-range effort from Michel gave Levante a surprise 1-0 win away to Getafe in Sunday’s lunchtime kick-off.
An uneventful first half was followed up by an uninspired second 45 as both sides struggled for inspiration in the final third at a rain-soaked Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
The home side generally shaded the play and recorded a number of shots at Los Granotes’ goal, but as the game wore on, these were increasingly from distance, with Levante’s Gustavo Munua kept awake with a couple of acrobatic saves to keep Getafe from piercing the net.
Just as the game fell into a lull that looked destined to decide it as goalless, Michel popped up to unleash a 35-yard wonder-strike that looped and swerved over Miguel Angel Moya for 1-0 to the visitors.
