Eusebio in praise of Deulofeu

Barcelona B Coach Eusebio Sacristan has come out in praise of winger Gerard Deulofeu, alluding to him as ‘a great pupil’.

Sacristan gave an interview to RAC 1’s Primer Toc programme in which he also ran the rule over some of the other second string players as they strive to find a way into Tito Vilanova’s plans.

“We’ve changed things a little with regard to [former boss] Luis Enrique’s way of doing things and mine and I hope that people enjoy watching the team. When results improve then I’m sure more spectators will come to the stadium to see my players,” said Sacristan.

“Deulofeu is a great pupil who wants to be a great player so he has to continue improving certain things in order to make a difference.

“There is also [Sergio] Araujo, who has had games where he has shown his qualities although in recent weeks his performances have decreased. Different things have happened that have affected him.

“As for [Jean Marie] Dongou, every time he goes on the pitch he takes maximum advantage of the minutes he plays because he shows character, personality, boldness and audacity.

“[Alex] Grimaldo is a guy who every time plays gives the impression that he is older than 17 and has just landed in professional football.”

Sacristan added that ‘it was a privilege to be coaching the B team’ and what he was looking for was ‘these kids to get into the first team so they can compete with respect, discipline and solidarity’.

He also commented on the job Tito Vilanova was doing since taking over from Pep Guardiola.

“With Tito, Barca are meeting all expectations. It has been a very good start to the season,” he said.
