Benzema: Spain shut up shop

Karim Benzema claimed Spain put everyone behind the ball during the second half of their 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw with France.

The Real Madrid striker was replaced by Oliver Giroud two minutes from time after picking up a knock, yet celebrated the fact his team had earned a valuable away point to the reigning World and European champions.

“It was important to get such a result against the best team in the world. In the second half we played very well and Spain had to put everybody behind the ball.

“We scored in the last second and that was extremely important to us. Spain are still the top seeds in the group but for us we now need to carry on like this,” he told assembled media after the game.”
