Ozil ‘grateful’ to Mourinho

Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil has thanked Coach Jose Mourinho, but lamented the intrusiveness of the Madrid media.

The former Werder Bremen playmaker, currently on international duty with Germany in Ireland, has given an interview to German magazine Kicker.

“The Coach knows what I can do,” stated the 23-year-old. “And I am grateful for his confidence in me.”

The comments are especially interesting given that Ozil has often been dropped by Mourinho this season, with some citing a predilection for the local night-life as the underlying cause.

“I have been living in Madrid for three years, and have had time to learn about the Spanish media. The paparazzi are much worse than in Germany. You can't go out to eat at a restaurant without being photographed.”

One thing that has impressed Ozil though is the Bernabeu on matchdays.

“The fans cheer me and make me proud. Especially during home games at the Bernabeu, where the atmosphere is amazing. It is unique.”
