Gabi has claimed that Atletico Madrid deserve to be 'among the best' as they sit second in the table after the first seven League games.
The 28-year-old midfielder believes that Diego Simeone's side can remain near the summit of La Liga come the end of the season, and also praised the work of the Argentine Coach.
“We have worked hard for a good start,” he told the club's official website. “And we are in that position because of the work we have put in. I expect it to continue for a long time to come.
“This club has to among the best. Clearly it is too early to talk about our goals [for the season], but we have fought for every game like it is our last, and it seems to have worked so far. This club deserves to be among the best.
“The Coach has been able to convey to the group what it means to play for Atletico Madrid,” he continued. “He has created a style of play that everyone can identify as ours.”
He also commented on what it means to be the leader of the side on the field, and congratulated fans of the Rojiblancos for their continued support.
“Everything I have ever dreamed of is coming true,” he said. “I am trying to bring to my teammates all my experiences and knowledge about this club. And it seems to be working.
“We are leaving our skin to make the fans proud of us. We will continue with this work, and I want to thank all the supporters for their efforts. They are the ones that take this team forward.”
