Athletic Bilbao defender Borja Ekiza admitted he was relieved at his side’s 1-0 victory over Osasuna at San Mames.
An early strike from Aritz Aduriz was enough for the Basques to claim all three points and lift themselves two points above the bottom three after a disappointing start to the La Liga season.
Alongside Deportivo de La Coruna and Rayo Vallecano, Marcelo Bielsa’s men have conceded most goals in the division and Ekiza acknowledged it was a much improved performance.
“We were solid and did not leave any gaps between defence and attack, so that benefited us,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“We started a little nervously but the goal settled us and I thought their goalkeeper [Andres Fernandez] had a brilliant game.
“It’s a win we must now build on to show our fans that we are on the right track,” he added.
